Trojan War Who to play War With

In the play The Hysterical History of the Trojan War Zeus is having a talk with Ares because he wants to play war with Athena.  After they found out who to play war with, so they picked the Spartans and the Trojans. Once they go all of the people Zeus said that he got a text message  saying that someone needed a thunder storm and had to leave.

In the modern version of the Trojan War story things are a lot different than the play version.  In the original version story they didn’t talk about what the gods were doing before the war but I’m pretty shore that Zeus doesn’t  have a cell phone.  Also I don’t think that Ares even thought he is the god of war wants to play war just for fun. Plus they didn’t even have pencils and papers, they only had a piece of stone and a chisel.

Some of the things from that scene are still the same or is true. In the play Zeus said that he had to leave the discussion because someone needed a thunder storm.  According to the Greeks,  Zeus was the god of lighting.  Also in the Trojan war story Zeus didn’t really do much in the war and it never really talked about him much during the war just like in the play.

There are also some differences between the story and the play, for example in the play Zeus said that he got a text message but back then they wouldn’t of had cell phones. Also in the original story there was no discussion between gods about wanting to play war and who was going to be on who’s side.

I really don’t like the remake of this story because there are a lot of events in the play that are kind of funny but or not really realistic for that time in history.  I mean the gods wouldn’t have had cell phones or pencil and paper.  Also when it got to the battle it was really boring and it got through the whole war in not even a whole page.  Overall I think that it was good but it wasn’t that realistic to that kind of time period.

People can change

Author’s Note: This is a response to the story “Thank you Ma’am” by Langston Hughes. It talks about some quotes from the story and how they are important and show a change in the characters and in the reader’s thoughts.

There are several quotes in this story that affect the way the reader feels about the characters. Their importance not only affects how you feel about a character but also shows how that character changes throughout the story. For example Roger in the beginning of the story was a thief and would take any chance he could to get money or food, but in the end he learned respect and trust.

In the beginning of the story Roger has almost no trust in Mrs. Jones partly because she had caught him red handed trying to steal her pocket book but also, she is a complete stranger to him. There is a quote in the story that proves that Roger is scared and has no trust in this women that he had just tried to steal from.  "If I turn you loose, will you run?" asked the woman. "Yes’m," said the boy. This quote just proves that Roger is still in a way a thief and has no trust what so ever in Mrs. Jones.

An important quote in the story that really stands out was when Mrs. Jones brought Roger to her house after he had tried to steal her pocket book. When he got to the bathroom after she told him to wash up the quote said,” Roger looked at the door—looked at the woman—looked at the door—and went to the sink.” This quote is probably one of the most important quotes in the story because it shows how much Roger changed from the beginning of the story to now, and it shows how much he is beginning to trust her because if I was in his position I would have taken her pocket book and ran.

Toward the end of the book Mrs. Jones did something risky, she left her pocket book on the couch were Roger was sitting. This part of the story will really changes what you think or believe about Roger, because Mrs. Jones could not even see Roger nor could he see her. He decided to scoot to the edge of the couch to where she could see him out of the corner of her eye. He did not trust the woman not to trust him. And he did not want to be mistrusted now.

Telling from Roger’s actions at the beginning of the book to the end of the book you can really see how much he had changed. You might not have been able to see his change in attitude and confidence throughout the story if it weren’t for these quotes. Overall quotes can really change how the reader thinks and shows their improvement throughout the story.

Ribbons

 The grandmother's culture has some ways that are different than our. Some of these ways are shown in the story, for example Chines people bow to you or other people instead of just hugging them or saying hello. Also their is a way that the chines people have of trying to make their self beautiful and it is not very pleasant.They try to make their feet small so they rap their toes around our foot and then cut off the circulation to their foot so it doesn't hurt. I think that this next reason is very mean because the Chines people like boys more than girls because like the grandmother said," boys are everything.” An example of a way that we would do for the sake of beauty would be like getting plastic surgery or dying hair. This is bad because stuff like plastic surgery are permanent but dying hair could make you look bad even though you thought it looked good. 

A clean Well lighted Place Book or Movie

   There are many examples of a book being better than a movie or a movie being better than the book because of sound. In the book A Clean Well Lighted Place, by Ernest Hemingway, there is both a book and a movie for it. In the story there are two men in a bar and it is really late. There is a man who comes in and stays until way after closing time. The younger waiter doesn’t like staying so late so he tells the old man to go home. In the story it was difficult to feel a mood or tone but in the movie there was because of the sound of voices, music, and facial expressions.

   A good example of the movie being better than the book is when the old man was sent home from the bar. This was a great example of setting the tone of the whole movie. It was  good because there was  music in the background that was  sad and gloomy as he was walking away. It makes you feel sad for the old man so the tone is a very sad one. Also you could really tell that the older waiter understood how the old man felt because he to liked working at the bar and didn’t mind being nice to an old man who lost a lot.

   A good example of when the book is better than the movie is in the beginning of both the book and the movie. In the movie there was a long period of time when it was just showing the bar and there was music playing. The music was sad and it was boring to watch. In the book it went right into the story, the conversations, and also it gave us more information about them.

   Another example of when the movie is better than the book is how the music and the sounds set the tone of the whole piece. In the movie the music sets a sad tone for the whole thing. Also the tone of the older waiter voices really shows that he cared about the old man and that he know what he was going through. Now in the book you can’t really tell whether or not they are just saying it or they actually mean it.

   As you can see many factors can change how an individual feels or thinks about characters or events in a story. People may think that movies are better than books or books are better than movies because of the type of events in it, like was or fighting scenes. It all really has to do with whether or not the books or movie has these factors that may decide which one you like best.

After you my Dear Alphonse response

I think that this story really relates to reverse racism because in the story Mrs.Wilson thinks that Boyd is very pore. She shows these examples by saying that Boyd can have some of Johnny's old clothes. Also she was telling him that he could eat as much as he wanted because she thought that he didn't have much for at his house. I personally think that she is doing all of these things because of the stereotypes of black people. 

She was being very naivete because she would say stuff based off of stereotypes and then he would tell her wrong. And toward the and of the story when she said that she was disappointed in him because he wasn't what she thought he was going to be like.

A Clean, Well Lit Place

I think that in the movie version of the story I think that the Director made good choices with the music and the lighting of the story. The music really made me feel sad or the way the older waiter felt when the old man left the bar in part 1. in the second part i also think that the music went along with the scene, probably because there was more than one person their and it just fit the mood.

The story was much different than the movie because the music set a different tone to the scene unlike the script when  you cant really feel that. I didn't really like the length of the screen shots because I think that in a conversation the screen shots should be a little shorter so that it is not so boring.

Song for a Surf-Rider  

 

   Often time’s readers lose interest in a story or poem because they find it boring. This could be because it doesn’t have any Figurative Language in it or the plot and Theme aren’t exciting. Also the reader just might not like it. However, in the poem “Song for a Surf-Rider” the author uses Figurative Language to keep the reader thinking. This helps the reader imagine what the story is saying and describing.

   One example of Imagery in the poem is “I ride the horse that is the sea. His mane of foam is wild and free”. In these sentences the author is comparing the horse to riding a surfboard on the waves. This affects the tone of the poem because the sea can be very unpredictable. In this part of the poem I felt the tone to be calm because that’s the feeling that the sea gives me, but in other parts of the poem the tone is wild and not so laid back.

   There is also another part of the poem that has some imagery that isn’t so calm. It says “ His eyes flash with an emerald fire”. Now when I hear that I think that it sounds kind of wild or exciting. Even when I think about it I would expect to see a fierce animal with a mad look in his eyes. The impact that this example of imagery has on a reader is probably big because this stanza could really get someone more interested in the poem and want to keep reading.  The use of strong words can bring excitement to the reader.

   The figurative language in this poem helps the reader paint a picture of what the author was thinking about.  If the author compared surfing to another object the reader may have had a different perspective.  By comparing surfing to riding a horse it allows the reader to bring in personal experiences and feelings to the poem.  Some experiences may be positive or negative.  Overall the tone of this poem was one of calm and excitement.  The imagery helped create this tone for me.

   As you can see from the examples of Figurative Language in the poem “Song for a Surf-Rider” the language an author uses influences the tone and meaning of the piece. Strong words and figurative language are just another way to keep the reader interested. Overall, I think that figurative language can really change a lot in a story like tone.

Who is the story teller?

  Have you ever wanted to know what it would be like if a story that you liked was told in a different point of view? Well the point of view is an important component in telling a story. It can really change the mood of the reader and the tone of the character. In the story Hoot, a boy named Roy just moved into town. He is new to school and already has some enemies.  Roy also has some good friends that are nice most of the time; however, they do get him stuck in some tough situations.

  In the story “Hoot” when Roy was on the bus going to school he saw a kid running without any shoes on so when the bus stopped he ran after him. Roy followed the boy into the woods because he had never seen a random kid running without any shoes on. Roy became curious about this kid because out of all the people that he had seen he has never seen someone like that.

  Since the story is told from Roy’s point of view there would be different feelings toward others. For example Roy may think that Mullet Fingers is a bad kid because he is doing bad things like vandalizing property. But if it were to be told from Beatrix’s point of view then she might think that he isn’t because he is her brother and that he is just fighting for what he thinks is right.

  Also if the story were to have been told in Mullet Fingers point of view than he might have different opinions than Roy. For example Mullet fingers might think that it is ok to vandalize private property to protest. But Roy might think that it is wrong because you can get in some big trouble if you do.

  The point of view can really change the events in the story and how the reader thinks about the other characters. This because some characters may have a good or bad back round with others may influence what the reader thinks about characters.

The Coolest Game Ever

  I woke up in a hurry already thinking about what to do. I got in the shower, brushed my teeth, and ate my breakfast. Now I could just sit down and do what I love. Play probably the best game ever, Realm of the Mad God.

  In my head I was thinking to myself, step one close the blinds, step two turn on my computer, step three sit down and relax and get ready to fight monsters like I always do.

  I am using a knight because they are really strong and have a lot of defense which means that you take less damage to your guy. I have been saving a bunch of good stuff for my knight in my vault like a T10 sword, a T4 shield, a T12 armor, and a T4 ring of speed ( the higher the T the better the item is).

 Before I went into a dungeon I called up one of my friends and asked him if he wanted to play with me and we could level up faster and kill more monsters. I called up my friend Jacob to see if he could play with me. He said yes but, he would be on in about ten minutes. I decided to go on without him and maybe will find each other later.

  I went into the dungeon named Ogre because it had more people in it and it is easier to fight monsters. Since I teleported to the god lands where the harder monsters are because you can get better items there. I found a small group of people with a priest (the only character that can heal himself and other people around him).

  As we were running around the god lands, we ran into one of the hardest monsters of them all, the Cube God. It was like five times the size of me and can almost kill you in one hit. Plus it had forty other minions running around it. We talked with one another and we decided that we could do it.

  We killed about 20 of its minions right of the bat but we had to hurry because it can keep regenerating them. When we charged it directly he shot at us about two to three times. Everyone made it out except for one who died almost instantly. After we dodged his shots I hit him with my sword about eight times witch probably did 2400 damage to him.

  By now he had about three fourths health left including the other people’s attacks. Then all of a sudden there was a gravestone with Jacob’s name on it and shortly after I got a call from him saying that he just died and I started laughing. But then he hung up.

It’s been about five minutes now and he is almost dead. I when into the chat box and told everybody to use their special moves on him in three, two, one, boom there was flash of colors. It was a little like fireworks, reds and blues lines shooting all over the place, it was great. And their lying on the ground was one of the rarest items in the game a dagger called the Dirk of Kronos. I grabbed it and then left to the Nexes ( which is the only place where there aren’t monster) and put it in my vault. This was truly the happiest moment I have ever had playing Realm of the Mad God.

The Patriot vs The Fighting Ground

  I am going to tell you some similarities and differences  between the main character from the book The Fighting Ground and Gabriel one of the main characters from the movie The Patriot. In the story The Fighting Ground the main character Jonathan runs away from home to go fight in the war. Later on in the story Jonathan gets caught by some hessian soldiers and they keep him captive for most of the story but later on he escaped and found his group of soldiers again. In the movie “The Patriot” the oldest son Gabriel Martin leaves his family to go fight in the war. Later on in the story Gabriel met up with his dad and fought throughout the rest of the war.

Gabriel and Jonathan both have some similarities and differences. Here is one big similarity between them they are both very brave for example Gabriel was probably  the most brave because in the movie Gabriel risked his life almost every time he went into battle and went up against the leader of the Hessian army. Jonathan was very brave to because he went to fight in the war when e was only a young teen and them got captured by three Hessian soldiers and gained their trust in him.

Another similarity that they both have is that they both really wanted to go and join the army. Gabriel wanted to go to war almost ever since it started but after awhile a begging his dad he finally said yes to him. Now Jonathan was a different story because Jonathan always dreamed of being in battle and was always asking his dad if he could but when Jonathan herd the bell that called all men to arms then he just went without asking.

Despite many similarities between the two of them they also have many differences. One big differences is that Gabriel dies towards the end of the movie. He died trying to kill the Hessian leader and he almost did but he stabbed Gabriel in the chest and surprised him. Now Jonathan almost died when they were shooting at the Hessians the guy right next to him got killed but Jonathan doesn’t get killed throughout the whole book.

Even though Jonathan from the book The Fighting Ground and Gabriel from the movie The Patriot very similar and different in many ways. 

Theme/ Main idea of Hoot

Author’s note: I wrote about this to tell people that confidence can lead you down the right path almost all the time in life and with almost everything else.

 

In life you will encounter tough situations and you will need the confidence to overcome it but you will never really get anywhere in life if you don’t have confidence to do it. In the story “Hoot”, written by the author Carl Hiaasen, the main idea is confidence.

 

In the story Roy (one of the main characters) makes some very tough decisions, some of which can mean getting arrested. In the story Roy and one of his friends Beatrix lie to Roy’s parent’s and say that they are doing a science project, but instead they went out and snuck into restricted property. They met up there with Beatrix’s step brother that Roy barley knows and fed some owls inside the property.

Later on in the story Roy and Beatrix went to see Beatrix’s step brother in an abandoned ice cream truck,  but when they found him he had some really bad and infected dog bights. They knew that they had to get him somewhere fast or the bight marks would get really bad. Roy took Beatrix’s step brother to the hospital but in order to protect his identity he used Roy’s name instead and lied to the doctor. Roy said that his name was Tex His plan was going perfectly well until Roy’s parents showed up and then he got in some big trouble.

At school Roy gets bullied a lot but it is mostly on the bus. One day on the bus to school one of the biggest bullies in the school sat right behind Roy when the bus stopped. Once the bus started moving again he said to Roy that he was going to kill him after school because about a week ago Roy had punched him in the face and broke his nose. Roy turned around and said that he seemed a little stressed out and that he could take out his anger out on him right now. Roy was confident and in a way stood up to him but he just got punched in the face and head like three to four times.

Another story that has confidence as its main idea is Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian. In this story Percy has to lead and army of demigods into battle and to protect the Empire State building from monsters. Confidence was  key here because without it he wouldn’t be able to lead and army into battle, or battle an army of monsters, and even battle titans by himself. 

Prediction piece

  Greg Heffley, a kid that doesn’t always make the best decisions. There are times in his life when he has the opportunity to do something good but then tries it his own way but then messes it up and then someone will hate him for it. In this book he will mess things up to.

  I think that at the end of the story Greg will mess things up with his date by saying or doing something and then she will just go to the dance with Rowley instead. I think that that will happen because in almost every book Greg will do something and it will mess everything up. Also because when Greg, Rowley, and Greg’s date were at the restaurant and in the car Rowley and Greg’s date were laughing and having a good time while Greg was just sitting there doing nothing.

 

 

  It was probably the worst day of my life so after the dance I went into my room and thought about my life for a while. I never realized it till now but I always mess things up when a good opportunity comes my way. I don’t know why but for some reason everything that is given to me is never enough and I have to change it.

  I thought about this and decided to make an apology letter to all of the people that I remember doing something mean to or messed something up that affected them or that was there’s. I worked on the list for about two weeks and then I just forgot about it and dropped the idea because there were just too many people.

  Later the next day at school I found out that Rowley was going out with my X-girlfriend. I was still pretty mad that she dumped me for Rowley I mean no offence to Rowley but I mean he is like still a little kid. I am just happy that nobody found out that she dumped me for Rowley otherwise almost everybody in school would find out and my life would be ruined forever.

  It was finally Saturday and no more school so I decided to play some video games for awhile . That awhile turned into four hours of just video games and no brakes. When I was finally finished it was 9:30 so I decided to go to bed and I fell asleep like five seconds after I laid down.

  The next day I called Rowley to see if he wanted to hang out but his dad said that he wasn’t in the mood to play so I had to wait until Monday to ask him what was going on. I thought that it was really weird that he didn’t want to tell me what was up but it’s not that big a deal.

  It was Monday my most hated day of the week because it was back to school. The first thing I did was ask Rowley what was wrong. He told me that he would have to tell me after school because it was a long story.

  Me and Rowley met up after school and he looked a little nervous. He said that he was going to make it short and to the point, his girl friend dumped him. I wasn’t too surprised but still I thought she really liked him. I asked him why and he said that she came over to his house and when she saw the stuff that he had like clothes and toys she said that she couldn’t date someone like him anymore. She just couldn’t be with someone that still acts like a little kid and then she left.

  It sounded pretty harsh especially for Rowley. I felt kind of bad for trying to get I out of him but oh well it done and over with.

  Today is the last day of school so I asked my mom if I could just skip and she said yes. This was a little weird because my mom never lets me stay home from the last day of school. I thought that this was a pretty good year of school. I just hope that next year is better.

Character Development

Character Development

  I am going to tell you about a kid named Percy Jackson. He starts out as an average kid with a normal life with a few problems that most kids don’t have. Over the years at Camp-Half Blood, he becomes smarter, a better fighter, makes lots of friends, and becomes one of the biggest heroes that ever lived.

                                   

  Percy’s life had been very hard because his dad left them (Percy and his Mom) when he was very little and never got to meet him. His mom married a guy named Gabe. Gabe is really mean and treats his mom like a slave. Percy always asked his mom why she married a guy like him. Percy and Gabe never get along well because Percy would stand up for his mom and yell at Gabe to stop acting so mean to his mom.

   Percy had a hard time at school mostly because he has ADHD so it’s hard for him to read. He didn’t have many friends because he was shy and almost a loner but, he did have his best friend Grover who he knew for a long time. Also weird things always happen to him, like once his teacher turned into a monster and tried to kill him and once two cheerleaders turned into monsters and tried to kill him too.

  Percy basically has two homes . One of his homes is Camp-Half Blood and the other is his old home which is the one he doesn’t go to anymore. Camp-Half Blood was for demigods like him where you learn to fight and protect yourself from monsters. Percy makes lots of friends there and becomes a great fighter. He influenced lots of the other campers throughout the book to never give up and to try their hardest.

  Percy does lots of things besides school. He trains very hard almost every day at camp and almost once a year he will go on dangerous quests to fight monsters or to save someone or something. Percy’s god life is hard because he is the son of Poseidon so he is a big target for monsters. Poseidon is one of the top three gods. When Percy turns 16 he can chose whether or not he wants to be immortal and be a god or stay the way he is. Percy decides to remain the way he is because his relationship with would change greatly. The gods were upset that Percy turned their offer down because they feel that humans think that they don’t need the gods anymore.

  Percy changed a lot from the time he was a regular kid to when he found out he was a demigod. He went from a kid that didn’t have many friends and had trouble with a lot things, like school and getting along with his dad, to a kid that was a leader and almost everybody knew. Also he saved the world, defeated titans, and became a hero to the demigods and the gods.

Patriot's Pen

  Hey you guys I think that you did a wonderful job starting up this country. Mostly everybody is doing good in their life or have jobs. Although you did a great job I think that there could be some things that you could have changed or rules you should have made.

  Some things that I think you have changed are how to make a law. I think that you should let the people vote on whether or not you should have a certain law so it is fair for most of the people. I also think that you should make a law on how kids act in school. I mean I came from an elementary school were everybody was respectful to the teachers and to the other kids. Then when I went into middle school kids were sleeping in class and talking back to teachers and bullying and they get detention and when that is over they just do it again. So I think that you should have made a law about school behavior.

  I would now like to tell you some of the things that I think that you did well. I think that one of the best things that you did was let us have freedom. I mean if we didn’t have freedom then we would really be struggling with life. I also think that you did a great job with the constitution. I mean it is the frame work of the entire country, we basically live by it and it works for us though.

  There are some things that I would like to ask you. Where did you get the idea of having a president? How long did it take you to write the constitution? Were there any problems when you finished the constitution? Those are some of the questions that I would like to ask you.

  These are some of the things that I wanted to tell you and I really wish that you can answer my questions but your dead. If there was one thing that I would say to you face to face is that you did a great job founding this country.

Cause and Effect

Cause and Effect

  I am going to do my cause an effect on Diary of A Wimpy Kid. In this story a kid name Greg Heffley who doesn’t really make the smartest choices. I am going to do my event on a game that Greg and his best friend Rowley were playing. In this game one person which was Rowley would have to ride down a hill on a plastic tricycle and another person would have to try to hit them with a football and knock them off their bike which was Greg. The cause in this story was that when Greg through the football at Rowley he flipped of his bike into a pile of snow and broke his arm. This was both good and bad for Rowley because he became very popular but he got a broken arm.

  The effect of this was both good and bad for Rowley because he became very popular but he got a broken arm. It was only bad for Greg because Rowley got mad at him and didn’t want to be friends with him anymore. Now if Greg wouldn’t have thrown that football at Rowley then he wouldn’t have lost his best friend and people at school wouldn’t have hated him for braking Rowley’s arm.

personal narrative

I was a hot day at Six Flags and we (my family) were so excited to have some fun. We had no idea which ride to ride first. Wanted to go on some rides that get you wet but my brother and my dad wanted to go on the American Eagle. We were all kind of scared but we went on it anyway. When we were waiting in line we talked and teased each other about what we were going to be like during the ride. As we got closer to the front we got more and more nervous.

When it was our turn to go my brother right away said that he was sitting by my dad so I had to sit alone. When we started to move up the ramp I was super scared because I always feel like I’m going to fall out of my seat. When we got to the top it was really cool but a little scary. Then we when down the drop it was super fast, my heart was racing so fast I couldn’t breathe. We were way ahead of the other team(we were the red team).

We finished the ride like 20 sec behind the other team. It was so much fun. The funniest part of the ride was that every time we would go down a drop my brother would scream But it was still really fun.

Battle of the Labyrinth

  In this story a kid named Percy Jackson (a demigod) son of. Now if you don’t already know the Labyrinth is a giant maze that will play tricks on your mind.

  

  This story is about a kid named Percy Jackson who goes on a big and dangerous adventure into the Labyrinth. Also Percy has to stop the evil lord Kronos from coming into camp and killing all of the demigods.

  It has action and mystery and lots of mythical creatures from Greek Myths. It is a god book for people that like myth.  

Conflict/Resolution piece

  In this book the gods and the demigods are battling the evil Titans Kronos and Typhoon and 2 others. They also have to battle an army of evil creatures/ Kronos’s army. The conflict is that they have to protect the Empire State building because it is an entrance to Olympus. Now if Kronos get to the Empire state building then he will destroy Olympus.

    

  The conflict is resolved when Percy defeats 2 of the titans but then he sees that Kronos has gotten to the Empire state building and then he hurried up to Olympus and half of it was destroyed. Mean while an even bigger threat was Typhoon. He was coming across the country to destroy Olympus to, but the gods were slowing him down to give the demigods time. When Percy finally caught up with Kronos he was mad and he wasn’t going to let Percy stand in his way. After he said that he destroyed Poseidon’s throne then that is when Percy and kronos started to fight during the fight Percy got cut with Kronos’s scythe. This was bad because you can die very quick if the cut is bad enough. Percy thought to himself that he would not let Olympus fall and he can’t give up. He fought through the pain and he beat Kronos and the Gods stopped Typhoon and all of Olympus was saved.
